Hey everyone! The idea of buying cruelty free products is very new to me. I became more intune to the idea after watching an older video of Youtuber Carli Bybel. In this video she showed a cruelty-free haul. I thought about this and decided to do more research. I have to admit I didn’t dive very deep into the details of why cruelty free is important because I don’t enjoy reading things that might make me sad (aka whatever is being done to the animals they use for testing). Because of this video I realize the importance of “cruelty free” is self explanatory if you’re an animal lover like I am.
So I’ve decided to slowly go cruelty free with as much of my beauty, skincare and hair products as possible.
Products are considered “cruelty free” if the company doesn’t test on animals, isn’t owned by a parent company that tests on animals, and doesn’t sell in China where it’s required by law to test on animals. For some, there’s room to wiggle with how they choose to classify “cruelty free”. Since I’m new to this, my plan is to do the best I can and learn as I go!
When shopping, an easy way to identify something as cruelty free is just by taking a peek at the back of the product label. Some will simply state they don’t test on animals, others will have an official label meaning they are cruelty free. To my knowledge there are 3 official stamps of cruelty free products.
So to start my journey I figured I’d start with what I use in the shower.
First I bought Raw Sugar Lemon Sugar Body Wash which is made from natural coconut and plant-based products. So far I’m really enjoying this. You only need a small amount to get it to lather which is always a plus! As far as the smell I enjoy the lemon but if you’re sensitive to smell it’s very strong! At my local Target they also had Coconut Mango and Vanilla Bean. This product states on the back that they don’t test on animals. A side note-for every item purchased this company donates a bar of their soap to a family in need!
Second I bought Maui Moisture Agave Shampoo and Maui Moisture Agave Hair Mask. These both smell really nice! I’m still testing these out so I’ll have to keep you all updated on my thoughts! The shampoo so far has a great lather while still being sulfate free. This product states on the back that it is cruelty free.
Also for my hair, I bought the It’s A 10 miracle leave-in product which is a favorite of mine already. I spray this in my damp hair and use it to detangle my hair. If I’m styling second day dry hair I’ll spray this in as a heat protectant. This product has the leaping bunny seal of approval on the back.
Lastly for my body, I bought my favorite Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub. This stuff smells amazing and does an awesome job at exfoliating. I had to do some research on whether or not Soap & Glory was cruelty free and I found a statement online saying they don’t test on animals.
So that’s my small cruelty free haul. I hope you enjoy this post and please comment and tell me your favorite cruelty free products. I’m new to this and need all the help I can get!
